This $1.2 million, two-phased renovation project at Saint Louis University Hospital replaced the existing imaging area with a new 1.5T MRI exam room and dedicated control room.  McGrath also updated the sunlit lobby/waiting area with soft wall colors and new flooring.

The new facility was constructed while the existing MRI rooms, located adjacent to the construction area, remained in use.

The MRI room also required a new copper enclosure for RF shielding, to prevent radio frequency (RF) and electromagnetic interference from penetrating the room.  The RF shielding system includes isolated electrical grounding, electrical filters and waveguides to prevent wiring and cords from acting as antennae.

Because of tight construction timelines, special concrete mixtures were used to allow for the timely installation of a floor vapor barrier and the sheet copper used in the RF shielding.
