McGrath & Associates has been selected as the general contractor and construction manager for the new 7,200 square foot Lobby Addition at the Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

The new addition will continue the design updates that started with the recently opened Emergency Department. In addition to a new lobby, the new space will include gift shop, reception, admissions and waiting room areas.

The $2.2 million project is scheduled to be completed in November, 2009. Archimages is serving as the project architect.

"We are pleased to select McGrath and Archimages for this project," says Tom Keim, president of the hospital, "and look forward to working with them throughout the summer and fall."

The focus of the new construction is on a comfortable, inviting environment for patient access and care. The interior design elements provide comforting colors and give a sense of calm, beauty, and healing linking the patient care and admission areas. The hospital's existing façade will be updated with the focal point being the distinctive architecture of the new entrance.

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit, county-owned Critical Access Hospital. It began as a 35-bed facility with 42 employees in 1969. From those modest beginnings, Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital has continued to grow as a primary care provider for the community.

The 4,700 square-foot-lab boasts several workbenches where visitors can conduct experiments using scientific tools. The majority of funding for the project came from a federal grant. The lab is the first major new exhibit since the James S. McDonnell Planetarium underwent an overhaul in 2001.

"Our new Life Science Lab launches a new approach to engaging, fun, hands-on learning for children and families," said Science Center President & CEO Doug King. "There is nothing static about this gallery. It is an authentic science experience that lets the individual make his or her own discoveries and grow an appreciation for life sciences that will be critical to our future."

The Life Science Lab includes an atrium entrance, activity benches, a lab classroom and a staff workroom. In the interactive atrium entrance, visitors of all ages will receive an introduction to various life science concepts and skills as well as the chance to view and use constantly changing collection items, biological specimens and science tools.

"We were thrilled to have a chance to work on such an exciting and visible project," said Kevin Story, director of Business Development & Marketing for McGrath & Associates. "This project, working within a functioning public facility, presented its own unique set of challenges. It is gratifying to see the final result, especially when you watch families as they learn and enjoy the new space."
